Amherst Ballet on Screen
This year, we’ll have regular screening of Amherst Ballet’s past performances. Dancers in the featured performance will be invited to the screening so that they can share their memories and experience with current dancers and local community members. We hope that these showings will let current dancers learn from the past on the one hand and strengthen AB’s connection to the local community on the other.
November 2 “15th Anniversary Gala” (1992)
Amherst Ballet Theatre Company was founded by Therese Brady Donohue in 1976 to give talented young dancers the opportunity for professional performing experience and to bring to young audiences an awareness of dance through educational programs in schools and communities. Since the moment of its inception, the company actively integrated different genres of dance, developed repertoire, and performed at various places. The Fifteenth Anniversary Gala epitomizes this very dynamic first phase of Amherst Ballet with an excerpt from the 1980 production of “Punch and Judy” and another from the 1981 production of “The Emperor’s Nightingale,” as well as diverse short pieces from ballet choreographed to Vivaldi’s Cello Concerto to Jazz Dance and Hoe Down.
