Scholarship and Tuition Support

Scholarship at Amherst Ballet

At Amherst Ballet, we have long been striving to break financial barriers for any aspiring dancers. Our scholarship program has two roots: the Young Dancer Scholarship Fund and Maura Donohue Scholarship Fund. The funds have been combined since and supplemented with grants and sponsorships from local businesses. Our scholarships are need based. Anyone interested should apply by clicking the button below.

Young Dancer Scholarship Fund

This fund was started in September, 2001 by Jillian Diamond, who gave $650 from gifts she had received for her Bat Mitzvah. The money was intended to give young dancers tuition assistance. Originally called the Diamond Scholarship Fund, its name was later changed to the Young Dancer Scholarship Fund by the request from the family.

Maura Donohue Scholarship Fund

The Maura Donohue Scholarship Fund was created in 1992 with donations from Amherst Ballet families upon the death of Maura Donohue, daughter of the AB founder Therese Donohue.
Maura danced at Amherst Ballet, as well as played the piano for classes and worked at the front desk until leaving to pursue a BA at Middlebury College, then an MA in Art at UMass, and almost, by a few months, a PhD in Art History from Princeton University. She passed away from heart failure at thirty years old.
Originally established to be awarded to an outstanding student, the fund was later turned into a scholarship fund for middle to high school-aged students.
In 2007, it was combined with the Young Dancer Scholarship Fund.
