Classes

Ballet Fundamentals

1 hour per week     
(1×1 hour class)
Friday 3:00-4:00 pm OR Saturday 9:00-10:00 am

Season Tuition: $560

No previous dance or movement training required. Students will practice basic ballet positions, movements, and terminology, as well as learning to dance rhythmically with music, and with clear directions of the body. Recommended for ages 4-6.

Level I

2 hours per week      (2×1 hour class)

Wednesday 4:00-5:00 & Saturday 10:00-11:00 am Madeleine Bonn and Hannah Kennedy Wright
Season Tuition: $1120

Some previous training preferable. Students will learn all classical ballet arm and foot positions, and begin practicing all traditional barre exercises. Dancers will gain an understanding of how to move rhythmically to a variety of musical tempi, and establish a foundation for advancing jumps and turns. Recommended for ages 6-9.

Level II

2.5 hours per week
(2×1.25 hour class)

Some previous training required; Students will attain knowledge of all arm and foot positions (1st through 5th), and all directions of the body (i.e. Croisé, écarté). Dancers will be confident executing all traditional exercises at barre (i.e. plié through grands battements), as well as basic jumps, turns, and traveling steps in center. Recommended for ages 8-11. 

Level III

3 hours per week 
(2 x 1.5 hour class)
Monday & Wednesday 4:00-5:30

Some previous training required. Students will gain an understanding of all ballet positions, movements, directions, and terminology, and will concentrate on proper alignment, strength, flexibility, and turnout throughout all movements. Pre-Pointe exercises will be incorporated into class time. Recommended for ages 10-13. 

Intermediate

3 hours per week
(2×1.5 hour class)

Students will have a solid grasp of all ballet positions, movements, directions, and terminology, as well as possessing an understanding of proper classical technique, alignment and form. Dancers will gain confidence performing multiple turns, jumps with batterie, and advanced sequences.

Intermediate Pointe

1 hour per week                   (2 x .5 hour class)

This open level class offers technical phrasing inspired by late modern period and contemporary dance while also facilitating deeper connection to the body’s innate wisdom via postmodern and somatic exploration. Lines, curves, gestures, inversions, and falling are all possibilities. Participants are invited to continually make their own choices about effort, expression, and commitment to following the “rules.”
Each class will incorporate floor work, so long pants or knee pads are recommended but not required. Participants can dance barefoot or in socks and should wear clothes that allow them to feel comfortable performing a wide range of movement.

Hip Hop

Participants in this beginning/intermediate class will practice basic house, waacking, street jazz, and break dance moves. Each class begins with an aerobic warm up of dynamic drills that build precision and strength. Then participants learn a longer phrase that builds on skills practiced in the warm up while also shifting their attention to feeling the music and telling a story.
Participants should wear clothes suitable for a wide range of movement and sneakers (that they don’t wear outdoors).

Intro to Ballet for Adults I

This is a 6-week course designed to teach adults the beginning basics of ballet technique as well as proper and healthy bio-mechanical body alignment.
Students will learn basic ballet positions, vocabulary, and class exercises, with an emphasis on alignment and musicality.
Students in this class are required to wear a KN/N95 mask.

Adult Beginner Ballet

1 hour per week

This class is designed for adults of all ages who have had some previous instruction in ballet, or for those who may have danced in the past and are interested in starting to dance again after
some time away. Students will move through traditional barre and center exercises, practicing various positions of the head, arms, and lower body, and working on jumps, turns, and a gradually expanding repertoire of more complex
steps in the center. An emphasis will be placed on learning safe and correct posture and alignment, internalizing corrections, and using ballet as a means to challenge yourself while moving your body in a fun and supportive environment. 

Adult Beginner Ballet Choreography Workshop

1 hour per week for 12 weeks

In this 12 week workshop, students will put the fundamentals they’ve learned into action by creating their own piece of choreography. The course will meet students where they are, both technically and artistically, and culminate in a fun, informal, in-studio performance in early December. No experience necessary.  Students are required to take Adult Beginner Ballet as a warm-up.

Modern

Amherst Ballet 2022-23 Schedule

Registration

  • Registration must be done through Dance Studio Pro. Click on the “Register” button below to go to Dance Studio Pro Parent Portal. 
  • There is a one-time non-refundable $30 registration fee for all classes, including drop-ins.
  • One free trial is available for each of the season classes except for Intermediate, Advanced, Modern, and Hip Hop. For these classes and the adult drop-in classes, the trail fee is $10.
  • If you have never danced with us before, you need to make a free account at Dance Studio Pro. If you have danced with us but don’t have the login info, email info@amherstballet.org
  • The school holds the right to cancel classes if the enrollment is too low.
  • The tuition amount is for the whole season unless otherwise noted. Various payment options, including monthly one, are available. Contact info@amherstballet.org to discuss your option.
  • Tuition can be paid online through Dance Studio Pro, which incurs a 3% service charge. It can also be paid by bringing a check or cash to Amherst Ballet. The check should be written to Amherst Ballet.
  • There is 3% discount if paid in full by September 11.
  • A second child in a family receives 5% discount and a third and fourth children 10% and 15% respectively.

Attention Adult Dancers!

  • You must register for each drop in class you want to take on Dance Studio Pro. 
  • Discounted 5 and 10 class cards are available for drop-in classes.
  • Student discount available for 5 and 10 class cards. Email info@amherstballet.org to get the student rate.
  • If you purchase a class card in DSP, be sure to click on “I’ll Bring a Punch Card” at the end of the registration. 
  • If you would like to use a credit card to pay for the tuition, please do so through DSP. Or you can bring a check or cash to the studio.
  • Everyone is required to pay the season registration fee of $30 and sign the Participant waiver and release of liability form at the beginning of the season. Look for the instruction in the drop-in confirmation message.

Dress Code

Ballet Classes: Female

Solid color leotard, ballet slippers and tights or leggings.
Ballet skirts are acceptable. Leg warmers may be worn at the beginning of barre.
Hair must be up in a bun.

Ballet Classes: Male

Solid color short-sleeve or leotard, ballet slippers, and tights or leggings.

Ballet Classes: Adults

Ballet slippers, comfortable clothes for exercise.

In the home page, click “Register for Classes.” –> Choose the one you would like to take and click “Submit.”

To pay the tuition, click  “Account” at top of the screen and choose “Pay Online” in the drop down menu. –> Choose “Other” and click “Next.” –>  Put “12” in the pay amount and finish the payment.
