Classes

Level I

2 hours per week (2×1 hour class)

Wednesday 4:00-5:00 & Saturday 10:00-11:00 am

Some previous training preferable. Students will learn all classical ballet arm and foot positions, and begin practicing all traditional barre exercises. Dancers will gain an understanding of how to move rhythmically to a variety of musical tempi, and establish a foundation for advancing jumps and turns.
Recommended for ages 6-9.

Level II

2.5 hours per week (2×1.25 hour class)

Monday & Wednesday 4:15-5:30 pm

Some previous training required; Students will attain knowledge of all arm and foot positions (1st through 5th), and all directions of the body (i.e. Croisé, écarté). Dancers will be confident executing all traditional exercises at barre (i.e. plié through grands battements), as well as basic jumps, turns, and traveling steps in center.
Recommended for ages 8-11.

Level III

3 hours per week (2×1.5 hour class)

Tuesday & Thursday 4:45-6:15    Combined with Level 4

Some previous training required. Students will gain an understanding of all ballet positions, movements, directions, and terminology, and will concentrate on proper alignment, strength, flexibility, and turnout throughout all movements. Pre-Pointe exercises will be incorporated into class time.
Recommended for ages 10-13.

Level IV

3 hours per week (2×1.5 hour class)

Tuesday & Thursday 4:45-6:15    Combined with Level 3

Intermediate/ Advanced

3 hours per week  (2×1.5 hour class)

Extensive previous training required. Students will have a solid grasp of all ballet positions, movements, directions, and terminology, as well as possessing an understanding of proper classical technique, alignment and form. Dancers will gain confidence performing multiple turns, jumps with batterie, and advanced sequences.

Intermediate/ Advanced Pointe

1 hour per week (2×0.5 hour class)

Modern

A class exploring the fundamentals and applications of classical modern technique. Moving through a codified class model we will learn the individualized movement vocabulary of classical modern while honing our ability to find freedom within discipline and individuality within uniformity. Wear long pants to protect knees during floor work and a tight fitting top.
Previous training recommended. Recommended age 12 and up.
Adult dancers can take this class on drop-in basis.

Jazz Dance

1.5 hours per week

This class will begin with a jazz warm up followed by some across the floor combinations intended to introduce dancers to the movement style. Most of the class will be taken up with learning choreography which will change weekly. This class is open to dancers of all experience levels and the choreography will be accommodating to that.
Adult dancers can take this class on drop-in basis.

Adult Intermediate/Advanced Ballet

Intro to Ballet for Adults I

1.5 hours per week for 6 weeks

This is an 6-week course designed to teach adults the beginning basics of ballet technique as well as proper and healthy bio-mechanical body alignment.
Students will learn basic ballet positions, vocabulary, and class exercises with an emphasis on alignment and musicality.

The first session is September 9-October 15.

Intro to Ballet for Adults II

1.5 hours per week for 8 weeks

This is a 8-week course for those students who have completed Intro to Ballet for Adults I.

The first session is October 21-December 16.

Zumba

  • If you have never danced with us before, you need to make a free account at Dance Studio Pro. If you have danced with us but don’t have the login info, email info@amherstballet.org
  • The school holds the right to cancel classes if the enrollment is too low.
  • As with the season classes, drop-in classes have the maximum enrollment limit of 5 or 7. To take drop-in classes in studio, you must pre-register for the particular class through DSP or by submitting the form below. 

Dress Code

Ballet Classes: Female

Pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Leotard colors are as follows

  • Level I: Lavender
  • Level II: Light Blue
  • Level III: Purple
  • Level IV: Emerald/Forest Green
  • Intermediate: Royal Blue/Navy
  • Advanced: Red/Burgundy

Hair must be up in a bun.

Ballet Classes: Male

Black ballet slippers, dance belt, black tights (suspenders optional), and a white short-sleeve shirt or white leotard.

Ballet Classes: Adults

Ballet slippers, comfortable clothes for exercise.
