Summer Classes

Summer session starts on July 6 and ends on August 12.
All the classes are for ages 14 and up.
Only Zumba class has the online option.

Classes

Intro to Ballet

Thursday, 6:30 – 8:00 pm              Instructor: Karen Michaels

This 6-week course is designed to teach adults the beginning basics of ballet technique as well as proper and healthy bio-mechanical body alignment.
Students will learn basic ballet positions, vocabulary, and class exercises, with an emphasis on alignment and musicality.

Advanced Beginner

Monday, 6:30 – 8:00 pm              Instructor: Madeleine Bonn

This class is intended for students who have established an understanding of basic ballet steps, positions, and concepts such as turn-out and proper alignment. 6 months to 1 year of previous experience recommended. 

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet

Monday & Wednesday, 5:00 – 6:30 pm              Instructor: Stephanie Shumway and Madeleine Bonn

This class is intended for dancers who have established an intermediate or advanced level of proficiency, focusing on classical technique, alignment, strength, and flexibility, as well as musical and artistic nuance. 

There will be no class on 7/14, 7/19, or 7/21 (Julian will teach the class instead. See below.)

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet with Julian Goodwin-Ferris

7/15, 7/19, 7/22   5:00 – 6:30 pm              Instructor: Julian Goodwin-Ferris

This class is designed to inspire dancers to find joy and confidence in movement, through their honest interpretation and expression of the music.

Zumba

Tuesday, 10:00 – 11:00 am              Instructor: Anna Plummer

Contemporary

Tuesday, 5:00 – 6:30 pm              Instructor: Minh Sullivan

This class will start on July 13. No class on 7/6.

Jazz Dance

Thursday, 5:00 – 6:30 pm              Instructor: Raphe Gilliam

This class will begin with a jazz warm up followed by some across the floor combinations intended to introduce dancers to the movement style. Most of the class will be taken up with learning choreography which will change weekly. This class is open to dancers of all experience levels and the choreography will be accommodating to that. 
During the second and third weeks, the class will shift to Wednesday.

Tuition
All the classes are on drop-in basis except for Intro to Ballet.
Tuition can be paid online through Dance Studio Pro or by sending a check to Amherst Ballet (29 Strong Street, Amherst, MA 01002).

Registration

To register for Intro to Ballet, go to Dance Studio Pro, make an account and click on “Add a Student” if you are registering your child or on “I take classes” if you are the dancer yourself. After that, click on “Register for Classes.” In the next screen, click on “2021 Summer” tab if it’s not already open and click on the check box next to “Intro to Ballet.”

To take a drop-in class, you must also preregister for each date by 7:00 pm the day before. Go to Dance Studio Pro and make an account following the steps described above if you are new. Click on “Register for Classes,” and in the next screen, click on the check box next to the class you want to take. This will open up a drop-down menu from which you can choose the date(s) to attend.

  • The studio holds the right to cancel classes if the enrollment is too low. In such cases, pre-registered dancers will receive a cancellation notice by 12:00 noon (8:00 pm the night before with the Zumba class).
Safety Protocol

If you are fully vaccinated, you are not required to wear a mask. If you are not, please wear one for your own safety.

Schedule
