AB Welcomes Iris Berkman

Iris Berkman

We are pleased to announce that Iris Berkman will join the AB faculty in the 2020-2021 season.

Iris has been teaching Creative Dance in the valley since 1995. Born and raised in Israel, she initially studied with Immanuel and Yosefa Bryant of Bat Sheva Dance Company, and danced professionally with their own company. She was sponsored by the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio to study in New York City where she pursued Ballet, Jazz, and Modern Dance technique with various teachers, including Milton Meyers and Zvi Gottheimer as well as at the Cunningham studio. Iris received a BA in Early Childhood Education and Dance from Hunter College, and taught Pre-school and Creative Dance at a number of institutions and private studios there before moving to Amherst. In Amherst, she co-founded The Valley Dance Project and has helped many local children find joy of dance.

For the fall semester, we unfortunately had to suspend Creative Movement due to safety concerns. However, Iris will teach Modern I for ages 5-7 both in person and online. Please visit our fall class page for more information.
