“I started the Young Dancer Scholarship Fund,” Jillian says, “because I loved to dance. As a child, dance gave me confidence, a creative outlet, and was really fun! I was challenged both physically and mentally.”
Since then, Amherst Ballet’s Young Dancer Scholarship Fund has opened the world of ballet to 25 young dancers. Nine have received the scholarship for two or more years. Three awardees are highly committed dancers, each of whom danced at Amherst Ballet for six or more years. Four — some with professional ambitions — have continued dancing elsewhere.
What does Jillian say about Amherst Ballet today?
“I know that I can confidently walk into most dancing scenarios and be refueled by movement. This is more important to me now than ever as I pursue a Doctorate in Psychology at the University of Denver.
It is my hope that the Young Dancer Scholarship Fund continues to thrive in order to provide young dancers the ability to access classes so they may enjoy dancing wherever life takes them.”
